Gua Sha & Advanced Facial Massage works two ways: as a standalone half-day add-on for therapists who already handle facials, or as part of a combined 1.5-day programme if facial treatment is new to you. Have a read and pick your path.

Prerequisite Required

This course is specifically designed for qualified facial therapists (GTi / NVQ Level 2 Facial qualification or equivalent required). If you do not yet hold a facial qualification, please see our complete Holistic Facial Treatment Training course.

Gua Sha & Advanced Facial Massage is its own qualification, but the GTi course itself is designed for therapists who already hold a facial qualification - it builds directly on consultation and treatment skills you're assumed to have. Attend your practical day

Come to ReCoop Health, Nuneaton for your half-day of live demonstration and guided hands-on practice. Your GTi certificate follows within 7 working days.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

A proper grounding, not just a technique.

The GTi course covers the theory behind facial Gua Sha as well as the hands-on routine — so you understand why you're doing something, not just how.

The theory

  • What facial Gua Sha is, and how it differs from firmer body Gua Sha — always light pressure, shallow tool angle, slow and rhythmic
  • The lymph-aware principle behind the routine: opening key drainage points before working across the face, then clearing down the neck
  • Skin, tissue and lymphatic anatomy relevant to the face
  • Tool shapes, materials and choosing the right edge for each area
  • Hygiene, tool care and safe practice between clients
  • Contra-indications and contra-actions — when not to treat, and how to handle a reaction professionally
  • Setting client expectations and fitting Gua Sha into a wider facial treatment

The practical routine

On the day, you'll practise the full sequence on a real client:

  • Preparing the treatment area and opening the key lymphatic drainage points by hand
  • Introducing the tool on the lower face — chin and jawline through to the ear and down the neck
  • Working the mid-face — around the mouth, cheeks and sides of the nose
  • Working the upper face — brows, the delicate eye area, and forehead
  • Completing the routine and giving clear aftercare guidance

Clients typically notice reduced puffiness and a more refreshed, radiant look — some light warmth or pinkness settling within an hour is normal and expected.

FAQ

Common questions

Do I need a facial qualification to book Gua Sha on its own?+
You need existing consultation and treatment experience — a facial, massage, reflexology or similar complementary therapy qualification is fine, whether that's from Brookes Therapy Training or elsewhere. If you don't hold one yet, book the bundle instead so you get the facial groundwork alongside Gua Sha.
What if I already did the Facial Treatment Training with you?+
Perfect — just book the Gua Sha half-day on its own at £150. There's no need to repeat any theory or the facial practical day.
Is Gua Sha part of the facial training, or separate?+
It's its own half-day course, genuinely hands-on — a live demonstration and guided practice on a client with me, not a set of videos to watch at home. Booked on its own it's £150. Booked alongside the facial treatment training it's £395 in total (a £30 saving) — together they run as one continuous 1.5-day programme, with your practical skills assessed as you go.
Do I need to bring my own model for the practical?+
No — a client is provided for you on the day, so your assessment is guided and supported throughout.
When's the next practical day?+
Practical days run on set dates at ReCoop Health in Nuneaton. Book and I'll enrol you within 24 hours and confirm the next available date with you — further dates are added regularly, so get in touch and I'll let you know what's coming up.
Is facial Gua Sha the same as the body version?+
No — body Gua Sha often uses firmer pressure. Facial Gua Sha is always much gentler: light pressure, a shallow tool angle and slow, rhythmic movement suited to the delicate skin and tissue of the face. You'll learn the difference, and why it matters, as part of the course.
Will this suit all of my clients?+
Not always, and the course covers this in detail. It's not suitable over active skin infections, cold sores, open or inflamed skin, or too soon after procedures such as fillers, Botox, peels or microblading. You'll learn the full list of contra-indications and how to explain a postponement to a client professionally.
How long does it take to get my certificate?+
Your GTi certificate, issued via the Beauty Guild, arrives within 7 working days of successfully completing your practical day and assessment.
